I took G to the park after I picked her up from school on Tuesday because the weather was so lovely.

We were the only ones there. We had the run of the place.

I thought she’d have a heyday.

Instead, we spent the first 10 minutes or so like this.

IMG_7923

Ya’ll. This girl has been SO clingy lately. It’s a little heartbreaking because, well, I have to let go. Momma has to go to work and I cannot hold you all day, sweet G. But these cuddles are great. Just, you know, less great when it’s 85 degrees outside and you’re wanting your toddler to burn some energy.

Eventually, she warmed up to this dinosaur. Who is basically Barney with a scary face. Well played, park planners.

(Also the cars at this park that you can “ride” in say ‘Desert Command’ or something like that on the side. This park is very aggressive. No wonder G didn’t want to roam freely)

After a few less than thrilling minutes on scary Barney, we made our way over to the tire swing.

IMG_7934

You would think that this would be the peak of fun. This swing was delightfully kid sized. No more than a few inches off the ground. Perfect for a curious toddler, I naively thought.

Now here is where I would very much like 10 minutes inside the mind of my child.  She tired of the tire swing quickly and moved onto the rocks.  These rocks? They were everything.  And then they were nothing.  It’s all so very confusing and hard to keep up with.

She piled them in my hand.

And then took them right back.

Round and round we went like this.  She threw rocks, handed me rocks, attempted to eat the rocks (don’t worry, mom, I’m pretty sure she only ate two.)

And then. Just as suddenly as the love affair with rocks began. It was over. Done with the rocks. The rocks are terrible. “Why am I touching these rocks, mom?” G would have said if she had the words.  What I got instead was wailing and gnashing of teeth. Or a dinosaur impression, come to think of it.

I blame you, scary Barney.

Ya’ll. We had such an action and fun-filled weekend.  So fun, in fact, that I’m going to start it off on Thursday.

Just like college, except for I worked on Friday.

Because there was no working on Friday when I was in college. I somehow arranged my class schedule to make sure that I didn’t have class on Friday. Or if I did, it was 1 class at 10 am. The best of which was my PE class.  I spent that hour on Friday mornings walking on the treadmill and watching The View. Or laying on the ab mats.  And by working out I mean talking with my friends and mostly hiding from the instructor.

It was all very taxing. Thanks for paying for my private school education, mom and dad.

Anyway, back to Thursday.  We went to On the Lawn to say hi to our friends at the OKC Moms Blog and enjoy the sunshine!

Ya’ll.  If you are local, you need to go to this.  It’s the first Thursday of every month and so. much. fun. Food trucks: check. Beer tent: check.  Moon bounce: check.

Also yard games.  This giant connect 4 game caught G’s eye for whatever reason but I also spotted giant jenga, putt-putt…and I’m sure I’m missing some others.

Good times were had by all and we will be back every month.  It was really, really great.  I cannot overstate this.

Friday night we went to a new restaurant in town with sweet friends and had quite the experience.  I discovered that I am a fan of a curry and our friends discovered that you can send a steak back 2 times and the third one will still arrive woefully overcooked.

It would have been comical except, dangit, we all wanted to love this restaurant!  To the management’s credit, they handled it perfectly.  They comp’d our friends’ meal and gave us a free dessert.

All that to say – if you find yourself at Covell Park, order the salmon curry and the chocolate torte.  Avoid the steak.  I’m a bad blogger and didn’t get a picture of my meal because I was also holding a squirmy toddler on my lap but it was REALLY good. And even better were friends that were willing to meet us for a meal at our senior citizen approved dinner time so we could spend time together.

I have no segway because it’s now 11:11 p.m. (make a wish!) so let’s just move on to Easter, shall we?

This was G’s first Easter where she could be actively involved in an egg hunt and I was so excited.

Last year was more passive participation.

Not one child found that egg, by the way.  She made for a good hiding spot.

So here’s what I learned when it comes to an egg hunt for children aged 0-3 (our designated zone):

No need for the countdown, folks, the start to this particular event is like NSYNC’s comeback a few years ago. Lotta hype.  Kinda meh.

I tried to walk with her to the eggs and then quickly realized that we would spend 45 minutes cajoling her towards an egg. So I just carried her to a plot of grass and let her have at it.

The egg hunting itself was pretty adorable.

She mostly sat to hunt her eggs. Like a lady. We actually spent a good amount of time casually tossing eggs at her while she was more interested in picking at the grass.  Who can blame her?  That’s basically how I spent my lackluster baseball career as a small child.

And come to think of it, she has a mother who passed her college PE class by laying on the ab mats and texting. This just comes by her naturally.  Why walk around and hunt eggs when your parents and grandparents will toss/kick them all toward you?

She’s smarter than all of us, that G.

Hello…is this thing still on?

I had a bit of an unplanned bloggy hiatus this last week.  To you three loyal readers, I can assure you that it wasn’t intentional.  Life has just been busy (all good things) and I had to put ye old blog on the back burner.  IMG_7810

Gratuitous e-card because this made me laugh and basically sums up my life lately. God bless coffee. God bless wine.

I mean, I took this screen shot last week because I had not one, but TWO different alarms on my phone one morning and I had pressed snooze on both of them.  I know there are people in this world who do not believe in the snooze button.  I applaud you people. I don’t understand you people. Teach me your ways, people who get out of bed after the first alarm. J and I both have a thing or eighty we could learn from you.

Ultimately, I’d like to blame Gilmore Girls on Netflix for my absence. I posted on Facebook that I was starting the series again and, hello, I’m a binge watcher by nature.  It’s one of my spiritual gifts. So to the Lorelai’s I say: Get off of my screen with your witty banter and nostalgia!

IMG_7921

Yes, yes I am still watching.  Quit judging me, Netflix.

In my dreamland fantasy world, G and I will have the same quick-witted back and forth that Lorelai & Rory do.  I attempted this yesterday when G was fussy and I was trying to engage her in a game of peek-a-boo (usually a real crowd pleaser at our house).

“G! Peek a boo! Where’s my baby?”

*fussy baby fusses*

“G, mommy is really good at peek a boo, your fussing isn’t very encouraging.”

*fussy baby fusses*

“G, this is one of my life skills! Please play with me!”

*fussy baby tilts head, offers a smile, and puts her hands over her eyes*

We’re right on our way to the repartee of the Gilmore Girls. Ish.

In sum, my life skills include peek-a-boo and binge watching TV shows from 15 years ago.

The bar is set low, my friends.  Right where I like it.

I’ll be back tomorrow with a little Easter weekend recap, which includes mixed thoughts on a new restaurant in town and how my child mirrored my athletic skills during her egg hunt.  Bless her heart.
